CENTRAL – A split-level home was heavily damaged by fire Friday as units from at least seven local fire departments battled the blaze. Central fire official Ed Reynolds said the home at 1401 Old Central Road owned by Janet and Carmen Reece. The Reeces were not at home when the fire started around noon, according to neighbors. Firefighters escape injury during call
CHARLESTON – Firefighters battling a blaze at a Huger Street house Wednesday escaped serious injury when the second floor gave way.
Five firefighters were on the second story when the floor tilted, causing three firefighters to fall. One held onto a windowsill while another grabbed a wall joist. [MORE]

FF’s respond to blaze in Pelzer
ANDERSON COUNTY – Firefighters from three Anderson County fire departments joined Greenville county firefighters in responding to a blaze at a house in Pelzer.
Anderson County Fire Chief Billy Gibson said firefighters from the West Pelzer, Whitefield and Wren fire departments in Anderson County and firefighters from the South Greenville fire department went to 10 Foster St. after a fire was reported in a two-story home there around 12:30 p.m. Tuesday. 15- year old arrested for fire
SUMMERVILLE – A 15-year-old Summerville teen facing several burglary charges can add another one to his criminal resume: Arson.
The youth faces the arson charge in connection with a fire that destroyed three town homes in March, according to Capt. Jon Rogers of the Summerville Police Department.
Rogers said it was his understanding that the department received a tip regarding this individual, who was also a suspect in several burglaries in the area. (more…)

3 Charleston FF’s injured in collapse
CHARLESTON – 3 FF’s were slightly injured when the 2nd floor collapsed during a house fire today. Command staff at the fire stated that 6 FF’s were on the 2nd floor when the floor tilted, causing 3 FF’s to “ride” the wreckage to the ground floor. The other 3 FF’s that were not injured fall held onto a windowsill, a wall joist, and by grabbing another FF to keep from falling into the damaged area. (more…)

Spartan Motors to close SC plant
CHARLOTTE, MI – Spartan Motors today announced its intent to exit its Road Rescue ambulance operation as part of the Company’s continuing review of all aspects of its business. The exit will allow Spartan to focus its resources on the highest growth and profit opportunities. The exit from the underperforming Road Rescue operation is expected to be completed by the end of 2010. Sprinkler showdown only delayed
COLUMBIA – Fire officials were still holding their breath in late May in hopes the Legislature would adjourn before it stopped a fire sprinkler mandate for new home construction from taking effect early next year. Lightning strike burns home
IRMO – Lightning struck a home setting it on fire Sunday. FF’s says they were called to the Ashford subdivision and upon arrival found the home fully engulfed in flames. The home is considered a total loss valued at around $220,000. The family was at home at the time of the incident and got out safely. There were no other injuries reported.

Board puts heat on fire chief
Status of job up in air after salary dispute

HOLLY SPRINGS – The chief of a fire department in northwest Spartanburg County returned to work Thursday, the morning after a salary standoff with the department’s board of commissioners, but his employment status remained in question.
Holly Springs Fire and Rescue Chief Lee Jeffcoat said he didn’t quit the post he’s held since 2004 and considers himself on the job until he receives “something in writing.” (more…)

Fire Destroys 120 Year Old Home
SPARTANBURG – A Victorian home located in the Hampton Heights Historic District burned as a result of painters using a heat torch to clean old paint. The home built was considered a total loss after a fire engulfed the upper floor Friday afternoon.
Public Safety Director Tony Fisher said no one was injured in the blaze.
The house at the corner of West Hampton and Irwin Avenues was reported to be one of the original Irwin Brothers houses, built in 1890.
The flames were out by 2:30 p.m., but the fire was still smoldering.
The Spartanburg, Drayton, Croft and Roebuck fire departments assisted at the blaze with other fire departments on stand by.

Beer truck crashes; No bottles survive
RICHBURG – A tractor-trailer carrying 47,000 pounds of bottled beer turned over late Thursday night on southbound Interstate 77 in Richburg near the bridge construction at Exit 62.
The driver was not hurt, said Richburg Fire Chief John Agee, “and that is what is important.” The truck was marked American Ale, Agee said, an Anheuser-Busch brand. [MORE]

Surfside condo destroyed by fire
SURFSIDE BEACH – The Sea Timbers Condos was destroyed by a large multi alarm fire leaving residents without place to stay.

Windjammer Village Fire Undetermined
CONWAY – Horry County Fire Rescue deputy investigator, James Cyganiewicz, determined that a fire in Windjammer Village originated in the back bedroom of the residence. Due to the extensive damage to the property, the exact cause of the fire remains undetermined.
Firefighters responded to 2210 Swamp Fox Circle in Little River on Monday, June 14, 2010. The house was deemed a complete loss.
Horry County Fire Rescue received mutual aid from Calabash and North Myrtle Beach Fire Departments. One firefighter was transported to Grand Strand Regional Medical where they were treated for a heat related illness and later released.

House Fire Ruled Accidental
MYRTLE BEACH – An apartment fire in Myrtle Beach was ruled accidental, said Dan Cimini, assistant fire chief for the Myrtle Beach Fire Department.
Firefighters brought the fire, at 2 Notch Road between 63rd and 64th avenues North, under control in about 10 minutes after arrival.
No one was hurt during the fire which was accidentally started in a bedroom of an apartment there.

Fire scare in York slows traffic
YORK – A light ballast was the cause of a small fire at Best Friends Consignment Shop on North Congress St. FF’s quickly brought the situation under control when power was controlled.
