WEST COLUMBIA – Lightning sparked a church fire, but the pastor says it won’t extinguish his faith. Fire crews responded to a lightning strike at Green Hill Baptist Church on Augusta Road in West Columbia on Monday. The lightning hit the steeple of the church, causing the fire. (more…)

Fire Damages Apartment on Folly Beach
FOLLY BEACH – A fire breaks out at an apartment on Folly Beach, destroying nearly everything. It happened just before 8:00 p.m. Friday night on Sandbar Lane. Chief Jerry Boatwright with the Folly Beach Public Safety Department says it happened in one of the upper level apartments at Sandbar Apartments, which are adjacent to the Sandbar Seafood Restaurant. Converse Fire Burns For 5 Hours
CONVERSE — A house burned on Longwood Street in Converse, according to the Converse Fire Department. Firefighters were called to the fire at 4:43 a.m. When they arrived on the scene the fire engulfed the home and the front of the house was falling in. (more…)

FIREFIGHTER EAST Magazine
A new online firefighter online magazine has appeared on the horizon. It is FIREFIGHTER EAST and it looks to be a solid publication. Not to be in competition with great works such as Urban Firefighter, it will take a different approach that will sure to please. The magazine will launch on September 10th, in honor of our 343 FDNY Brothers that died on 9-11.

Sun City House Fire Destroys Attic and Garage
BLUFFTON — A house fire in Sun City Hilton Head has destroyed an attic and garage at 15 Falmouth Way this morning. The blaze started around 10:30 a.m. in the one-story home’s attic, possibly by a light bulb brushing up against an object in the attic, according to Kirk O’Leary, public information officer for the Bluffton Township Fire District. Indian Land FD Gets Grant for New Fire Station
INDIAN LAND — The Indian Land Fire Department has been awarded a $1.6 million stimulus grant to build a new, state-of-the-art fire station. The 8,750-square-foot building, which will be connected to the department’s existing fire station, will include offices, training rooms and living quarters. Construction on the new two-story station will include renovating the existing metal building, increasing the number of bays for fire equipment. (more…)

City of Hartsville Dedicates New Ladder Truck
HARTSVILLE — The newest addition to the Hartsville Fire Department’s firefighting arsenal is now in service. Firefighters and city officials dedicated a new fully-equipped ladder truck Tuesday in a ceremony that included the traditional wetting down of the truck followed by firefighters pushing the vehicle into its parking bay in the fire station. Double Fatal Fire in Greenwood

GREENWOOD – An elderly couple was found dead after a raging fire gutted their home. The fire occurred around 3am on McCormick Avenue in Greenwood County.

Leak in K-Mart was Refrigerant
CHARLESTON – A refrigerant leak, possibly caused from the AC system, shut down the West Ashley K-Mart for several hours on Thursday. St. Andrews and Charleston FF’s responded to the 1500 block of Savannah Hwy for the report of a white mist coming from the back of the store. Dozens of employees and customers were evacuated from the building as HAZ-MAT crews prepared to enter to determine what was the source of the leak. (more…)

Saluda Race Shop Destroyed by Explosion; Antique Cars and Memorabilia Lost
SALUDA – A fire broke about 10:30 a.m. Tuesday at the Myers Family Race Shop in Saluda, leaving no serious injuries but at least half a million dollars in damages to the building as well as antique cars, equipment and memorabilia. Walhalla Arsonist to Enter Georgia Rehab Program, Gets No Jail Time
WALHALLA — Cody Christian Dean LeCroy will spend no time in jail for burning a Walhalla church if he completes a Georgia drug rehabilitation program. Tenth Circuit Solicitor Chrissy Adams said Tuesday she was disappointed that Judge Cordell Maddox had not given LeCroy, 18, any of the up to 25 years in jail he faced. (more…)

Lightning Fires Keep Local FF’s Busy
COLUMBIA AREA – Local firefighters are getting sick of the weather forecast they see each day calling for daily afternoon thunderstorms that lately have led to daily lightning fires. The Irmo Fire District worked one major structural fire three straight nights, along with dozens of less serious lightning-related calls. Lexington County Fire Service handled two major lightning fires Monday and another Tuesday that destroyed buildings. (more…)

Fire Destroys Home of Councilman
RIDGEWAY – Ridgeway Town Council Member Jim Chandler didn’t expect his day to go like this. Less than an hour after he went to work this morning, he got a call that his Third Street house was on fire. An EMS worker happened to go by the home of Peni and Jim Chandler, located at 355 West Third St. near downtown Ridgeway, when he saw flames coming from the Chandler’s garage. (more…)

Official: Myrtle Beach Blaze Caused by Gas Tank Explosion
MYRTLE BEACH – A home was heavily damaged by water and smoke after a fire Wednesday afternoon, according to Myrtle Beach fire officials. Westview-Fairforest Fire Taxpayers Question Spending
WESTVIEW-FAIRFOREST — Despite an improved balance sheet, the Westview-Fairforest Fire District had a financial elephant in the room at the commissioners meeting Tuesday night — and a 2010 Chevy Tahoe in the garage. Concerned residents questioned why commissioners recently replaced Chief Scott Garrett’s vehicle with the new SUV while two substations remain closed and the district was in financial straits as recently as 18 months ago.
