NOTE: The title of this story is loaded with sarcasm.
CHARLESTON – In the wake of the Sofa Super Store fire in June 2007, which took the lives of nine firefighters, Charleston Mayor Joe Riley said the city would be remembered for how it responded to the tragedy. He has the same message today. (more…)

How could Mayor Riley be so apparently unaware that the members of the “Routely Panel” wanted former Chief RT removed from office.
On a daily basis you could read the comments from the CFD firefighters in the Charleston Post and Courier and blog site Firefighter Hourly that the Rank and File personnel wanted RT to be removed.
Further, if I recall correctly in one City Hall meeting with the Firefighters and carried on WCIV Channel 4, the Mayor when interviewed basically said he “He did not believe in what the firefighters were saying”.
Mayor Riley, a whole host of firefighters and officers from around the U.S. wanted RT removed from his position as Chief of the CFD.
Again, as I’ve written previously, it took the NIOSH “Draft” Report being released to force your hand to release the larger Routely Report.
It’s essentially in the Charleston P&C Archieves and you can’t re-write this. It’s a matter of public record.
