One Fatal in Andrews Plane Crash

ANDREWS – The name of the pilot who died in this morning’s plane crash adjacent to the Andrews Airport has not been released. The plane is registered to Richard H. Gross of McClellanville. It was a small, private Skyline plane .

The cause of the crash is under investigation by the Federal Aviation Administration.

Georgetown County Sheriff’s spokesman Neil Johnson said the plane went down about 150 yards from the Andrews Airport runway. He said the pilot was the only person aboard the plane when it crashed.

The airport is closed while the investigation takes place, Johnson said. If a plane needs to land, however, it will be allowed to do so.

Coroner spokesperson Paulette Radcliffe said that office will release more details later today.
