ESTILL – American Red Cross volunteers were called in Thursday afternoon to assist a family of 15 after a fire destroyed their Estill-area home.
Firefighters from Estill and Hampton County EMS personnel responded to a house fire Thursday afternoon at 183 Hendricks Mill Road in Estill. Once firefighters arrived on scene they reported a mobile home with smoke coming from the structure, and remained on the scene for about an hour to extinguish the fire.
The Red Cross assisted fifteen people, including nine children, by providing comfort kits filled with emergency supplies, financial assistance to replace the clothing and food that was lost in the fire and to provide for temporary housing.
The family was also provided assistance in replacing medicines and given referrals from partner organizations to assist in their long term recovery.
