Space Heater Explosion Injures Man

VAN WYCK – The wail of a lone bagpipe pierced the sky as firefighters carried the body of Dillon Denton out of Van Wyck Presbyterian Church and toward his final resting place. FF’s Battle Apartment Fire
CONWAY — Firefighters battled a fire at a apartment building on Burcale Road in Horry County Friday night. Leslie Yancey with Horry County Fire Rescue said the fire toned out around 6:45 p.m. for an unit in the Waterway Crossing Apartment complex. Fire Forces Family Of Five From Home
RAVENEL — A fire in Ravenel that forced a family out of their home Saturday night was the third house fire of the day for the Red Cross.
The fire at 5807 Winkie Lane in Ravenel displaced a family a five, including three children, according to the Red Cross. Volunteers provided temporary housing and emergency supplies to the family. (more…)

34 Displaced By Massive Fire
GREER — Greenville County fire officials said improper storage of household chemicals caused a fire that displaced 34 people at a Greer apartment complex Thursday night. The fire happened at the Ashton Woods Apartments on Pelham Road about 11:30 p.m. Firefighters said that building 25 was engulfed in flames by the time they arrived at the scene. (more…)

Stores Reopen, Share Space After Fire Bombings
BLUFFTON — Four businesses on the South Carolina coast that were the target of fire bombings last month have reopened and are sharing space and equipment.

Fires Increase In Cold Weather
ANDERSON COUNTY — As families try to stay warm in the cold temperatures, firefighters see more fires, according to the S.C. fire marshal.
In 2010, 56 people died in South Carolina fires. Six people were killed in fires in Anderson County, including a family of three who died in January at their home in Honea Path.
“(The family) was using the stove in the house for a heating source. That’s very dangerous,” said Anderson County Fire Chief Billy Gibson. (more…)

FD Explores Adding Hydrants
TEGA CAY — Tega Cay leaders are stepping up on fire safety.
At issue is the need for more fire hydrants in historic Tega Cay. In recent months, two homes were severely damaged or deemed a total loss. That reality forces concern.

Man Hit And Killed By Fire Truck
COLUMBIA — The man who was hit and killed by a fire truck ran into the road because a store clerk called the police on him, according to authorities. Richland County Coroner Gary Watts said 49-year-old Michael A. FD Teams Up To “Stuff The Truck”
MULLINS — Walgreens and the Mullins Fire Department have teamed up this holiday season to bring gifts to families in need. Fire Chief Robert Stetson said Walgreens manager Benjermin Martin approached him with the idea to have an event called, “Stuff the Truck.” The idea is to have members of the community donate non-perishable foods, clothes, toys, and any other item that could help a family in need.
