1 Fatal in Early Head-On MVA
COLLETON COUNTY – A two vehicle MVC has left one person dead and another person injured. Fire-Rescue responded to the fatal collision in the 21000 block of Augusta Hwy (SC Hwy 61) at Pumpkin Girl Lane Wednesday morning 25-May at 06:22. This is the second fatal MVC on the same stretch of highway in the last week.
Spartanburg FF’s Battle Multi-Alarm Fire
WHITNEY – A large fire at #1 Austrian Way at International Automotive Components has multiple firefighters working early this morning. Multiple fire departments are on scene after being called to the scene around 8 a.m. this morning.
Fire Departments on the scene include Whitney, Hilltop, Cherokee Springs, and Boiling Springs.

Patriot Flag Flies in Anderson

ANDERSON — The flag is dirty on the top, with a few holes and patches. Some of the patches are bigger than an ordinary flag because this particular one, the Patriot Flag, is around five stories tall. Fire District Celebrates New Substation

SANTEE – The Santee Fire Service District recently held a ribbon-cutting ceremony for its new substation on Intercoastal Road. After several years of fundraisers, submitting grant applications through the Federal Emergency Management Agency and generous donations from residents in Santee and the surrounding area, Santee Fire Service District was able to complete construction of its substation and also purchase a new truck. New Station for Volunteer Department

LEXINGTON COUNTY — For Claude Lindler, a new fire station near completion on the south shore of Lake Murray symbolizes the improvement of fire protection in Lexington County.
“We’ve come a long way from what it was when we started to what it is today,” he said.
The facility on U.S. 378, five miles west of Lexington, will replace one built 40 year ago by volunteers whose numbers are dwindling but are still considered vital assistance. (more…)

Lightning Strike Possible Cause of Fire
WALTERBORO – A neighbor to a Lowcountry church dialed 911 on Friday night after hearing a loud boom and walking outside to find the structure blanketed by smoke and flames. Officials with the Colleton County Fire-Rescue Department said they received the call at 10:11 p.m. The first fire engine arrived at 10:18 to find the two story wood frame church with heavy black pressurized smoke coming from the roof of the sanctuary. Early Morning Fatal Fire

AIKEN — One person has died after a house fire in Aiken County. We are unsure of the identity of the victim, but hope to have a name soon. Aiken Public Safety Officers were sent to the scene of a structure fire on the 900 block of Hampton Avenue. That's near Laurens Street.
Crews report a mother and her three children were inside the house when they arrived on the scene. They were just inside the door, possibly trying to escape. (more…)

CHARLESTON — A handful of people watched an S.U.V. burn Wednesday, just feet away from gas pumps. The Ford Explorer was charred after firefighters sprayed it down on Highway 61 and Sycamore. FD Holds Emergency Preparedness Training

CHERAW –- The Firefighters of Cheraw participated in an emergency readiness drill last week at the site of the old Walmart. The scenario was a hazardous materials situation, one of the many areas that firemen train on each year. “The department has been doing in-house training for the past few months as we do annually, to keep our ‘Haz Mat’ skills sharp,” said Cheraw Fire Chief John L. GAFFNEY — A 3-year-old girl died after part of a portable stage fell on her at a church day care in Gaffney on Wednesday.
Cherokee County Coroner Dennis Fowler said Alyssa Jade Mayfield of 116 Camellia Circle, Gaffney, died at 4:26 p.m., after the 4-foot by 8-foot stage component fell on her about 3:20 p.m. in the West End Baptist Church gym. (more…)

Teen Dies in Congaree River

COLUMBIA — Officials have identified the teenager who drowned in the Congaree River Wednesday afternoon as an 18-year-old Dreher High School student.
Richland County Coroner Gary Watts identified the victim as James M. Sharpe Jr. of Columbia. Watts said an autopsy shows Sharpe died from fresh water drowning. (more…)

FD Reaches Settlement with Ex-Chief

HOLLY SPRINGS — Holly Springs Fire and Rescue District commissioners have agreed to a $150,000 settlement with former chief Lee Jeffcoat. In addition to the financial agreement, Jeffcoat, who spent 26 years with the department and seven of those years as chief, will not get his job back. Lightning Blamed for House Fire

MONCKS CORNER — Lightning appears to not have only caused a fire in the Del Webb retirement community early Wednesday, it's also believed to have been responsible for delaying firefighters' response.
Whitesville Rural Fire Chief Tim Stephenson said an antennae on top of the communications center that serves more than a dozen rural fire departments also appears to have taken a lightning strike during Wednesday morning's powerful storm, knocking out radio transmissions just as reports of a fire came in at Del Webb. Kids Blamed for Starting Fire

LAKE WYLIE — What began as an investigation into a possible arson case at a Lake Wylie business turned out to be “kids being kids,” its manager said Thursday.
At about 7 p.m. April 27, deputies with the York County Sheriff’s Office responded to an incident Anchor Self Storage on Charlotte Highway, located in Rivers Edge Pavilion. A 5-foot section of wood fence was burned along with a nearby tree. The incident report also listed graffiti on a fence. (more…)
