Man in Critical Condition After Accident

COLLETON COUNTY – A single car MVC in the 12000 block of Green Pond Highway (SC Hwy 303) has left one man in critical condition. The accident was reported at 13:41, Monday afternoon 31-October. 

The caller reported the vehicle was on its side with one person trapped inside who was barely breathing. Engine 6 and Medic 6 arrived a short time later verifying one person was heavily entrapped in the small pickup truck.

Midway Fire Department Receives Public Education Award

PAWLEYS ISLAND – The Midway Fire Rescue Department was selected for the prestigious Richard S. Campbell Public Education Award for its efforts in 2010. The Richard S. Campbell award began in 1991 to recognize fire departments for their commitment and dedication to fire and life safety public education for the citizens of South Carolina.

Georgetown Fire Department Awarded For Excellence in Education

GEORGETOWN – The Georgetown City Fire Department has been presented with its third award for its fire safety program. 

During the SC Fire Chief’s Association annual meeting in Anderson, SC, this year, the department was awarded the Richard B. Campbell Award for Excellence in Public Fire Safety Education.

Fire Chief Joey Tanner presented the award to Mayor Jack Scoville Monday. On hand for the presentation was City Administrator Chris Eldridge and the department’s fire marshal, Lt. David Holcombe.

“This is a great award for the City of Georgetown”, said Chief Tanner, “It means our Public Fire Safety Education program is one of the best in the state. I’m proud of the work our men and women do to promote fire safety.”

3 Horry County Fires Kill Two

HORRY COUNTY – Three separate house fires, including two where people were killed, in Horry County Sunday night and early Monday kept fire and rescue crews busy, according to authorities. The trio of blazes that were in the Wampee, Conway and Myrtle Beach communities, said Leslie Yancey, Horry County Fire Rescue spokeswoman. (more…)

Colleton Works Another Pin Job

COLLETON COUNTY – A two car accident in the 9200 block of Augusta Highway sent a St. George man to the hospital Thursday afternoon 27-October at 15:26. According to a witness, the 2010 Nissan Altima pulled into the path of a west bound pick-up truck.

Origin of Church Fire Remains a Mystery

GEORGETOWN – It wasn’t just a church building destroyed by fire Sunday. It was a piece of Georgetown’s history. What was the Greater St. Stephen AME Church building on Winyah Street is now a huge pile of ashes and rubble after flames quickly leveled the structure before daybreak Sunday. (more…)

Early Morning Fire for Florence Home

FLORENCE - Early this morning at approximately 6:50 a.m. the Florence Fire Department was called to a residential structure fire in the 100 Block of Waterman Avenue.

By the time first responders had arrived, the residential home was completely engulfed in flames.  Fire units quickly determined that the home was not occupied.  There were a total of three fire stations in all that helped contain and put the blaze out.  In all Three Engines, One Ladder Company and the 4 Staff vehicles were on scene.

The fire was under control around 7:08AM. The FFD was assisted on scene by the Florence Police Department and Florence County EMS as well. 

There are no reported injuries to firefighters or civilians.  The fire still remains under investigation.

Grandson Attempts Save of Grandmother in Deadly Blaze

SUMTER – Two people were killed early Saturday morning after officials with the Sumter Fire Department say their home caught fire.

Authorities say a 25-year-old male and his 80-year-old grandmother died at the home on Boulevard Road while trying to escape the blaze which was described as "fully involved" by the time firefighters arrived at the scene around 2:00am.

What Does it Take to Become a Columbia Firefighter?

COLUMBIA – The Columbia Fire Department is hiring, but the road to getting the job isn't easy. "Tough Course," said Assistant Chief Jamie Helms of the training system for recruits. Many start, but only a select few can finish. "They all took a written test just to get to this point and what we are trying today is to see if they have the physical ability to be Columbia Fire Firefighters," said Helms. (more…)

New Photo of Church Fire Released by Georgetown Fire Department

GEORGETOWN – The Georgetown City Fire Department has released this new photograph of the fire that destroyed Greater St. Stephen AME Church on Winyah Street Sunday morning.

Assistant Fire Chief Bill Johnson said the picture was taken about ten minutes after the first firefighters arrived on the scene.

Former Horry County Volunteer Fire Chief Arrested on Sex Charge

HORRY COUNTY – A former Horry County Fire Rescue volunteer district fire chief has been arrested and charged with criminal sexual conduct with a minor under the age of 11 — first degree. According to police records Tallmedge Leroy Rowell, 52, Nichols, was arrested Monday after a woman came to the Horry County Police Department and reported Rowell assaulted her in 1991 when she was under the age of 11.

Edgefield County Restaurant Destroyed in Fire

TRENTON – A popular Trenton eatery, Trenton BBQ, was gutted by flames Friday afternoon when a kitchen fire got out of control. A dispatch call for a structure fire went out to local fire departments just before 2:30 p.m. this afternoon, with units from Trenton, Edgefield and County Line fire departments responding to the blaze.

Berkeley & Hampton County Deputies Involved in Separate MVA’s

BERKELEY COUNTY – A BCSO Deputy collided with trees on Jehovah Rd. near Old Hwy 6. The Deputy was reportedly attempting to catch up with a suspicious vehicle when he lost control of his cruiser and crashed into several trees off the side of the road.

12 Transported After Van Wreck on Interstate 95

**UPDATE – Photo gallery added of incident.

HAMPTON COUNTY – At least 12 people are reportedly being transported to local hospitals following a one-vehicle wreck which involved a 15-passenger van Monday afternoon on Interstate 95. The accident was reported around 3:05p.m. as the van reportedly rolled over in the area of the 37 mile marker southbound with numerous passengers inside. Initial reports revealed there were at least 11 adults and three children involved in the accident.

6 People Homeless After Fire

COLLETON COUNTY – A heating device is blamed for a fire in a singlewide mobile home that displaced six people Saturday evening 22-October. Fire-Rescue was notified of the fire at 22:22. Engine 15 arrived 8 minutes later to find the singlewide mobile home approximately 25% involved.

Columbia FF’s Home Destroyed in Fire

A fireman’s house burned Sunday while he was working that the Columbia Fire Department. Two passer-bys reported a house was on fire on Buncome Road in the Whitmire section of Union County around 4:30 a.m. Sunday.

SLED Called in to Investigate Church Fire

GEORGETOWN – The South Carolina Law Enforcement Division has been called in to assist with the investigation of Sunday's fire that leveled St. Stephen AME Church. But, that does not mean arson is suspected as the cause of the blaze, according to Georgetown Police Capt. Nelson Brown.

Federal judge douses Firehouse Subs’ request for new trial

MYRTLE BEACH - A federal judge last week denied a request by the Firehouse Subs restaurant chain for a new trial in its trademark infringement case against Horry County firefighter Heath Scurfield and his Calli Baker’s Firehouse Bar & Grill restaurant in the Briarcliffe Acres area.

Fire Destroys St. Stephen AME Church

GEORGETOWN – The congregation of St. Stephen AME Church was expecting to attend a service today honoring their stewards and trustees today. Instead, they were awakened by the news that their historic church was fully engulfed in flames.

The fire at the historic church — pastored by State Rep. Carl Anderson — was reported at around 7 a.m. after nearby residents reported hearing a loud explosion. Darrin Lawyer, a member of the church who lives across Winyah Street, said he called 911.
