West Florence FF’s Contain House Fire

FLORENCE – A Florence home has sustained heavy heat and smoke damage Wednesday afternoon following a fire.

Capt. Anthony Fox, spokesman for the West Florence Fire Department, said firefighters responded to a home along McNiel Drive around 12:45 p.m. Wednesday for a reported house fire.

Units including two engines, a tanker truck and a rescue truck located smoke coming from the roof of the home, but were able to contain the fire to the room of origin, said Fox.

Florence County EMS and the Florence County Sheriff's Office responded to the scene and the cause remains under investigation at this time. No one was hurt.

Two Goose Creek FF’s Struck by Suspected Drunk Driver

***BREAKING NEWS***

GOOSE CREEK - The City of Goose Creek Fire Dept's Rescue 1 and Medic 9 were operating at an MVA when a suspected DUI entered the scene striking 2 FF's.

FF/Medic Christopher Harrison and Captain Michael Altoff were struck by Jessica Lanier after she failed to yield to the emergency scene and plowed into the two men.

Reports from the scene indicate that FF Harrison pushed Captain Altoff out of the way at the last moment, taking the brunt of the impact.

Both were transported to Trident Medical Center with Harrison having a shattered ankle and Altoff with torn ligaments in at least one knee. They were treated and released several hours later.

The FF's were wearing their protective clothing and Rescue 1 had been set up to create a "safety" zone. Police were on scene when the members were struck.

The 25 year old Lanier was arrested by South Carolina Highway Patrol on suspicion of DUI and transported to the Berkeley County jail. She is currently awaiting a bond hearing as of press time.
