Aiken Police Officer Killed
AIKEN – An Aiken County Public Safety officer is dead and another officer and a suspect were shot Tuesday evening following a traffic stop. Officer Scotty Richardson, 33, was one of two officers shots Tuesday night following a traffic stop on Brandt Court. Richardson was transported to the Medical College of Georgia where he died early this morning. (more…)

Massive Fire Destroys Jasper County Building
HARDEEVILLE – Firefighters were busy this morning battling a massive blaze on Speedway Blvd near I-95. The fire destroyed five businesses and a Hispanic Seventh Day Adventist Church in Jasper County. The fire started around 3am and reported to have started in a burglarized business in an apparent attempt to cover up the crime.
The fire quickly spread to the attic and ran the length of the building. The lack of fire breaks and sprinklers hastened the advance of the blaze. Multiple fire departments were called into assist. Crews were on scene for nearly 10 hours.
Arson squads are on scene investigation the incident.

ANDERSON – ACFD Units are on scene of a multi-alarm recycling facility at 428 N. Gossett Street / OmniSource Recycling. Heavy smoke can be seen for miles. We will post more on this as it becomes available.
Richland County K9 Deputy “Fargo” Killed in the Line of Duty
COLUMBIA – A Richland County K9 Deputy shot multiple times by a robbery suspect this morning has died. K9 Deputy "Fargo" was attempting to apprehend a robbery suspect during a chase on Monticello Road. Fargo's Handler Deputy Warren Cavanagh was also injured during the chase. A massive manhunt is underway for a black man, about 5'8" tall, with a mustache, wearing a camoflage jacket, blue jeans, and a black shirt.
During chasing the suspect K9 Fargo caught up with the suspect and locked on to him. During the struggle the suspect shot Fargo 3 times afterwhich he fired shots at deputies. The deputies returned fire and it is unknown if the suspect was struck.
K9 Fargo, a 5-year-old Belgian Malinois who was trained in narcotics detection, tracking, and criminal apprehension, died in surgery.
Police officers from multiple agencies are searching for the suspect at press time. Two helicopters from two counties are being used as well.
From the Richland County Sheriffs Office K9 webpage: Master Deputy Cavanagh came to RCSD in 2006 from the office of Inspector General with the State of South Carolina DJJ. He has been in Law Enforcement since 2002 and began handling K9s in late 2004. M/D Cavanagh’s partner is K-9 Fargo. K-9 Fargo is a Belgian Malinois acquired by RCSD in 2006 at the early age of 9 months to begin his training. K-9 Fargo is triple wielded in Narcotics detection, Tracking, and Criminal Apprehension. M/D Cavanagh and K9 Fargo pride themselves in making the communities of Richland County a safe place to live.

Explanation of Pension Debate
COLUMBIA – In order to clarify the information surrounding the PORS pension reform reported in The State Newspaper, the Columbia Firefighters’ Association contacted the State Media reporter Adam Beam directly prior to any release of information concerning PORS reform. During the initial conversation, it was stated that legislators had directly discussed changes to PORS including those mentioned in the article. The @adambeam tweet, "Columbia Firefighters Assoc. spokesman: "Can you imagine a 62-year-old firefighter running into a (burning) building?"
Proposal: State Workers Cannot Collect Pension Until 62
NOTE: THESE CHANGES DO INCLUDE THE PORS / POLICE OFFICER RETIREMENT SYSTEM!!
COLUMBIA – State employees would pay more into the S.C. retirement system but get less when they retired, according to a plan approved Monday by a House subcommittee. The changes would affect all state employees, teachers, local government workers, police officers and firefighters who have been on the job for less than 23 years. Man Found Dead in Burner Home
CHARLESTON – Firefighters thought the wooden house was empty as they battled aggressive flames that pulled it to the ground early Monday morning. Only after extinguishing the blaze at 55 Poinsett St. on peninsular Charleston did they find a body on the second floor. (more…)
Florence FD Has Busy Sunday Morning
FLORENCE – The Florence Fire Department was dispatched to two separate working structure fires within eight minutes of each other. At 9:19 a.m., Stations 1, 2, 4 and 1 Command Staff vehicle responded to the 800 Block of N. Dargan St. for a structure fire. When they arrived the crews noted heavy smoke and flame coming from the rear of the building. (more…)

St. John’s FD Warns of Phone Scam
JOHNS ISLAND – The St. Johns Fire Department was alerted Monday to a phone scam. The caller stated they were calling on behalf of the St. Johns Fire Department, collecting for the St. Johns Fire Department Children's Burn Unit.
The caller requests information including a credit card number.
The St. Johns Fire District does not solicit donations for any charity over the phone nor do we accept credit card numbers.
The St. Johns Fire District actively supports the Carolina Children's Charity and the Muscular Dystrophy Association through a sanctioned collection process which is well advertised. We also support Toys for Tots by acting as collection stations for area citizens.
We urge all citizens to use caution during this holiday season when donating to charities.
